Dr. Ricardo J. Montoya is an active violinist and teacher currently based in Houston, Texas. Mr. Montoya earned his Bachelor of Music from the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico and his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. As an orchestral musician, Montoya has performed extensively in his home country with ensembles such as the Carlos Chávez Orchestra and the Eduardo Mata Orchestra, appearing in Mexico’s principal concert venues. He has also collaborated with professional orchestras, including the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the San Luis Potosí Symphony Orchestra. In March 2018, Ricardo won the Carlos Chávez Orchestra Concerto Competition, performing Goldmark’s Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 28.
In addition to his performing career, Mr. Montoya has taught as a teaching assistant at the Moores School of Music since 2022 and has received training for Suzuki Book 1. In 2025, he will join the Paganini School of Music, as well as the teaching artist team of the Mercury Chamber Orchestra.
