Nicholas Perkyns studied at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University where received his Master’s of Music in Cello Performance degree in the studio of Norman Fischer. He received his Bachelor's degree in 2021 at Rice University with Desmond Hoebig, has privately studied with Christopher French, Associate Principal of the Houston Symphony Orchestra, and with Lisa Vosdoganes both privately and through the Shepherd School of Music Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program.
Nicholas has been an active participant in several chamber and orchestral ensembles throughout Texas; in 2015, he earned the 1st chair position in the TMEA All-State Symphony, and from 2016-2017 appeared as a soloist and was awarded first prize in concerto competitions with Fort Bend Symphony, Houston Civic Symphony, and Clear Lake Symphony. Nicholas has also been a member of the Dorrington String Quartet since 2019, giving performances and engaging with communities in Houston and around the country. He has been attending solo, chamber, and orchestral summer music festivals since 2015, traveling across the United States and internationally to study with renowned musicians such as Johannes Moser, Antonio Meneses, Michel Strauss, Emmanuelle Bertrand, and more. When he isn’t playing, Nicholas loves to travel, cook, hike, and go rock climbing.
